Is Delta 10 Stronger Than Delta 8?

In recent years, Hemp products like Delta 8 THC have taken the industry by storm. This is because Hemp derived THC provides a mild high and minimal psychoactive effects. However, a new kid is on the block that is challenging Delta 8’s popularity is Delta 10 THC. You might be wondering, is Delta 10 stronger than Delta 8? Here is what you need to know.

An Introduction to Hemp Derived THC

To fully understand how Delta-8 and Delta-10 compare, it’s important to look at their relationship. Delta-10 is described as a rare molecular relative of Delta-8 and Delta-9 THC. It’s another THC isomer, meaning it has similar psychoactive properties as Delta-9 but, because of its chemical make-up, the psychoactive properties are far more mild.

Delta-10 was actually discovered by accident by Fusion Farms, a California-based cannabis manufacturer. They bought some outdoor-grown Hemp, used to manufacture concentrates. However, this batch of Hemp had been exposed to fire retardant chemicals due to recent wildfires. These chemicals would have an interesting result.

Fusion Farms didn’t initially notice the contamination, continuing with the extraction process. Upon completing the distillation process, some unusual crystals had formed. At first the lab wasn’t entirely sure what these crystals were. This was the catalyst for the research on Delta-10.

Although different, Delta-8 and Delta-10 do share several key similarities. For one, Delta-10 has a close resemblance to Delta-8 and Delta-9 THC. This similarity in structure means it interacts with the body in a similar way as Delta-8 and Delta-9 THC.

Though it’s still being researched, it’s believed that Delta-10 binds with the CB1 receptors - located in the central nervous system - in the same way as Delta-8 and Delta-9 THC. Additionally, it appears that Delta-10 has a similarly strong affinity with the CB2 receptors, just like Delta-8 and Delta-9 THC.

Another similarity are the psychoactive effects. All three compounds can get you high, with Delta-9 THC being the strongest, the one most likely to give you the stereotypical high that you think of. Delta-8, however, it's more mild than Delta-9, one of the main reasons it rose in popularity. Delta-10 can also get you high, though it’s a high that’s even more mild than Delta-8.

Also like Delta-8 and Delta-9 THC, Delta-10 does have the possibility of making you fail a drug test. Because it still contains THC, it can be detected by the right drug tests, just like Delta-8 and Delta-9 THC.

At the core of the differences between Delta-8 and Delta-10 is the chemistry behind the molecular structure of the compounds. The term “Delta” indicates a double bond in a compound’s chemical structure. In the case of Delta-8 and Delta-10, the number that follows tells you where the double bond is located.

For Delta-8, the double bond can be found at the eighth carbon chain. Therefore, for Delta-10, you’ll find the double bond at the tenth carbon chain. This different chemical structure could tell us why Delta-10 is more mild, though more research needs to be done.

A difference we touched on early is the psychoactive effects of Delta-8, Delta-9, and Delta-10. Delta-9 is the compound that will give you the most intense high. Following that, you’ll find that Delta-8 still has psychoactive effects but they are more mild. Also, equally as mild is Delta-10.

Finally, the compounds are also derived differently. Delta-10 is far more rare and hard to find, so much so that scientists mistook it for other compounds at first. This more challenging extraction process could tell us some of the future of Delta-10 in the marketplace.

Pros and Cons

There are several benefits and disadvantages associated with Delta-10. First we have the lack of intense psychoactive effects. For those who use cannabis and Hemp products, the psychoactive effects can inhibit when they can use their favorite tincture or smoke their favorite strain.

The psychoactive effects can hold you back from fully enjoying all the benefits of cannabis and Hemp products. By not having such an intense high when you use Delta-10, you can enjoy the many benefits of Hemp, even more so than by using CBD, but still be able to function.

Another pro of Delta-10 is that it’s federally legal. This makes it more accessible for those who use Hemp and cannabis products. Because it’s legal in most states, you don’t have to worry so much about falling into legal trouble every time you use it.

While more research needs to be done to confirm the impact on health conditions Delta-10 can have, there are some positive anecdotal pieces of evidence.

Hand in hand with that we have our first disadvantage of Delta 8 and Delta 10: it hasn’t been fully researched. As federal restrictions ease up, scientists will be able to isolate Delta 8 and Delta 10 and study it more fully but until then, it’s still a bit of a mystery.

It’s also harder to extract. The difficulty in the extraction process and the rarity of the Delta 10 THC crystals could mean that it will either be harder to get or more expensive as it becomes more available.

Finally, you might need to take more to achieve the same psychoactive effects, if that’s the goal of your cannabis and Hemp consumption. Because Hemp derived THC has a far more mild psychoactive effect, to experience a more intense high, you’ll need to take more of it.

Where To Buy Delta 10 THC

Where To Buy Delta 10 THC

Anytime you’re talking about buying a Hemp or Cannabis product, the legality of the product has to be taken into account and Delta 8 THC and Delta 10 THC is no different. The simple answer is that it’s still illegal in some states that list it as a controlled substance.

Because Delta 8 & Delta 10 is derived from Hemp, it lives in a sort of legal gray area, along with CBD. According to the DEA, “All synthetically derived tetrahydrocannabinols remain schedule 1 controlled substances.” That means that Delta 8 and Delta 10 which have been derived from Marijuana, or synthetically, would still be a controlled substance, and wouldn’t be legal. However, because quality Delta 8 and Delta 10 is derived directly from Hemp, it’s technically legal anywhere that CBD is.

At a federal level, Hemp derived THC is legal. It’s the state laws that vary. Currently, Hemp derived THC is legal in 38 states. To follow the regulations, however, the THC must be derived directly from Hemp, have less than 0.03% Delta-9 THC, and it can’t be synthetically produced from Delta-9. By following these guidelines, our products have the same legal status as CBD, meaning it can be shipped to those states where CBD is legal.
